Centro Clinton daycare has places for 92 children ranging in age from 18 months to 12 years old. It accommodates toddlers, preschoolers, kindergarten and grades 1 to 6 students in 5 rooms.

Programmes

Toddler

The toddler programme consists of up to 10 children ranging in age from 18 months to 2 1/2 years. The adult-to-child ratio is 1 to 5. This programme aims to provide a safe and nurturing environment, build trusting relationships, and promote autonomy and self-esteem.

Pre-school

Each of the two pre-school programmes consists of up to 16 children, ranging in age from 2 1/2 years to 4 years. The adult-to-child ratio is 1 to 8. This programme aims to provide the children with positive learning experiences, and helps them become independent. The environment is stimulating and it challenges and supports the child's own interests, talents and abilities. It provides age-appropriate activities that help develop problem-solving and social skills, as well as creative and language expression.

Kindergarten Programme

The kindergarten programme consists of up to 20 children, ranging in age from 4 years to 6 years. The adult-to-child ratio is 1 to 10. The children in this programme attend either a.m. or p.m. kindergarten. The programme provides a supportive environment to help promote a sense of self, within the child's peer group. It encourages tolerance, co-operation, understanding and social responsibility. It also promotes language, and helps the children express their own creativity.

Before and After School Club

Centro Clinton's Before and After School Club gives children an opportunity to participate in activities such as science, cooking, reading, games, music, sewing, drama, yoga, sports and remedial tutoring. Children in the program are encouraged to express their interests and thoughts, and to develop self esteem and self confidence. They are also encouraged to develop positive feelings toward learning and build an understanding of their role in the community. This program is offered from 7:00 to 8:45 and 3:30 to 6:00 pm, as well PA days, Christmas break, March break & summer.

Centro-Clinton Daycare is open weekdays (Monday to Friday) from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., except for the following holidays:

Staff

Centro-Clinton Daycare has 11 full-time staff -- a supervisor, 8 staff with Early Childhood Education (ECE) credentials, a cook, and a resource teacher. We also have part-time and casual staff who help out as needed. From time to time, we accept students who are training for their ECE accreditation.

Food and Nutrition

Centro-Clinton Daycare has an on-site, full-time cook and a part-time assistant who use a well-appointed kitchen to prepare and serve wholesome food -- a morning snack, a hot lunch, and an afternoon snack -- for the children.

We are able to accommodate children who have food restrictions or allergies, or who require special diets.

Waiting List

We make a sincere effort to accommodate parents who are interested in having their children placed in Centro-Clinton Daycare. However, you should know that we strive to be at (or near) full enrolment at all times. Therefore, we recommend that you contact the Daycare's Supervisor well in advance of when you would like your child placed in the Daycare. It is a good idea to get on the Daycare's waiting list.

Fees

Our monthly fees for children attending Centro-Clinton Daycare are as follows:

• Toddlers: $1076/month (or $49.50/day for part-time toddlers)
• Pre-schoolers: $855/month or $39/day
• Kindergarten Programme: same rate as for pre-schoolers
• Before and After School club: $21/day; $29 on PA days, Christmas break, March break & summer
• Nursery Program: $23.50/day - without lunch, 8:30-11:15am

Fees are due on the first of the month. Fees are payable regardless of whether or not children are in physical attendance in the Daycare. There is no rebate or reduction on account of vacations, illness, or other absences.

We adjust fees, usually on an annual basis, to reflect ongoing costs.

Governance

Centro-Clinton Daycare is a non-profit daycare run by a volunteer Board of Directors comprising parents (with children in the Daycare) and professional educators. The Board oversees the Daycare's operations and establishes its policies.

Location

Centro-Clinton Daycare is located in Clinton Public School at 460 Manning Avenue (just north of College St.) in a thriving and cosmopolitan downtown neighbourhood known as "Little Italy". It is a wonderful place to live, work, play, entertain -- and raise a family.

Many parents and caregivers walk their children to and from the Daycare. Others use public transportation: the Daycare is a 10-minute walk to and from the Christie subway station, and less than a 5-minute walk to and from streetcars (on Bathurst St. and College St.) and buses (on Harbord Sreet).
